Degrade Lines: A Delicate and Colorful Paper Necklace

Combining Simplicity, Color, and Texture

The Degrade Line necklace, designed by Maria Eftychi of Design-m.e, is a unique piece of paper jewelry that showcases the beauty and versatility of this accessible material. Inspired by the properties of paper, Eftychi has created a necklace that is both voluminous and lightweight, with a stunning color degradation that adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.

The Degrade Line necklace is made up of hundreds of folded circles of paper, carefully layered to create a piece with a sense of volume and a soft, lightweight feel. The high-resolution texture of the necklace is a result of its intricate structure, while the gradual color degradation is achieved through a geometrical merging of various color tones. The necklace is also flexible enough to twist, allowing for a minimal and adjustable design.

Producing the Degrade Line necklace involves a meticulous process. The paper circles, made from both recycled and new paper, are cut with special punches, folded, and then holes are made for the steel thread to pass through. The finishing touches include brown leather, a coral ball, and a golden plated silver clasp. The necklace is also coated with a special varnish to protect it from moisture.

When worn, the Degrade Line necklace sits naturally on the neck, thanks to its adjustable and flexible structure. The color degradation adds a splash of light that illuminates the face, while the minimal design and easy closure make it a practical and stylish accessory. The coral ball and golden plated silver clasp add a touch of glamour and volume to the overall design.

The Degrade Line necklace is the result of ongoing research in three areas: streamlining the production process, developing a moisture-resistant varnish without compromising flexibility, and refining the finishing to enhance the overall design. The necklace is a testament to the designer's creativity and technical expertise, overcoming challenges such as achieving a smooth color degradation and experimenting with folding techniques.

The Degrade Line necklace is part of the FOLD and DEGRADE collections by Design-m.e, which have been captivating audiences since June 2015. Each necklace is meticulously crafted, taking approximately eight hours to complete. The design has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2016, highlighting its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities.

With its simplicity, colorful essence, and unique texture, the Degrade Line necklace is a true work of art. It showcases the beauty and versatility of paper as a material, while adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to any outfit.
